Customer reviewsGood quality product, reasonable price, but recent formula change
Have been using Vitamin Shoppe Milk Thistle extract since about 2005. This recent batch has been changed. Used to have coconut glycerin now has vegetable glycerin . I assume vegetable glycerin is cheaper, based on vegetable vs. pure cooking oils for instance, the generic vegetable oil is always the cheapest on the shelf. This new bottle of Milk Thistle extract is darker, more bitter tasting than before. Also, they nearly doubled the number of servings, from 30 to 57, old 2.0 oz 60 ml vs new 2.0 oz 57 ml ... the mysterious shrinking Ounce In fact, 2 ounces equals 59.15 ml. Where they get 57 ml for 2 ounces, I don t know. BUT They also cut the serving size in half from 2,000 to 1,000 mg extract. So at first glance seems like you re getting more. Not so. For years, this was a lighter brown-tan color, had a milder taste, and actually a bit milky-looking, which are reasons I chose to repurchase many times over the past 8 years, usually at the Vitamin Shoppe walk-in store local to me. Hopefully this new formulation will prove to be as good overall quality as before. I rate this 3 stars now since the formula has been changed, and not necessarily for the better, from the good proven version of the past.
